The passion of my life is travel. For more than 30 years, I have been circling the globe in search of the finest hotels, resorts and travel experiences. Three decades on, the allure of foreign lands and unfamiliar scenes remains as irresistible as ever.

Strangely, a lifetime of excitement and pleasure was born out of frustration and disappointment. I had grown weary of being misled by inaccurate guidebooks, and magazines overly reliant on advertising. And so began the Hideaway Report newsletter, which is still the foundation of everything we do.

My core principles remain the same as they were when I founded the company in 1979. I travel anonymously and I pay all my own expenses. Hotels have no idea who I am, or that I am there to write a review. In other words, I am treated exactly as you might be. This approach is still extremely unusual, especially today, with the advent of the blogosphere and an ever-growing number of undiscriminating review sites. Most other publications, even well-known and well-respected ones, accept discounted rates or free accommodations, and this can color their judgment.

Of course, my company has grown over the years. Today, the Harper Collection is a peerless reference guide to the world's most distinguished hotels and restaurants. And recently, we launched an online magazine version of the Hideaway Report, with lavish color illustration, videos and expanded content. The biggest change, however, has been the transformation of a simple publishing business into a comprehensive private travel community.

It started with Hideaway Report subscribers saying, "You've told us where to go, but how do we turn our travel dreams into reality?" Nowadays, Andrew Harper provides a select group of discerning members with personalized trip-planning assistance, a range of valuable benefits at hotels and resorts that I personally endorse, and a robust website offering access to my reviews and the planning tools to turn dreams into reality.

Despite the radical changes that tourism has brought to the world, for me, travel remains one of the supreme pleasures of life. I like to think that Andrew Harper membership is an important step down the road that has brought me such untold joy.
