Ask Harper Anything

Years ago, before we dedicated the back of the Hideaway Report to travel news, we had a regular column called “Reader Requests.” In it, we answered questions that members had sent to our editor-in-chief, Andrew Harper. We still post online articles assembling our editors’ responses to member queries, and those that we can’t fit, we respond to directly. But recent upheavals have caused us to reconsider that system.

Never, in most of our lifetimes, have things changed more drastically than they have in the last few months. Much of what we all knew about travel has been tossed out the window. It seems, therefore, an opportune moment to find a way to address inquiries more publicly and more quickly. Our members have a lot of questions about traveling, and understandably so. There are many who are comfortable with the idea, but perhaps they’re not sure how best to handle arrangements or where it’s even possible to go. We have been on the road, and we can help.

We would like to encourage members to submit questions via Instagram (our handle is @HideawayReport), and we will answer them there, accompanied by the hashtag #AHA. If you have no Instagram account, feel free to email [email protected]. We’ll reply to you via email and post your question (anonymously) to Instagram. We’ll also regularly assemble answers to the most commonly asked questions, as well as ones we found especially interesting, into articles here on our website.

If you have questions about what it’s like to travel now, we would love to hear them. Our editor-in-chief has completed more than one investigative trip since the pandemic began, and he would be happy to share his thoughts. If you have an inquiry that doesn’t necessarily fit with the topic this month, however, please don’t hesitate to ask! We’d love to answer it in any case. And, as always, the Andrew Harper Travel Office is at your disposal if you wish to speak with an experienced travel advisor. Just call (800) 375-4685.

In addition, if you follow our Instagram feed, you may notice that we like to feature travel photos that members send to us. Although none of us is traveling as much as we might like at present, we do enjoy looking back at memorable trips of the past. Feel free to send a favorite photo or two to the email address above, and we might very well share it on our Instagram feed as part of our #MemberPhotoMonday series.

By Andrew Harper Editors Andrew Harper editors travel the world anonymously to give you the unvarnished truth about luxury hotels. Hotels have no idea who the editors are, so they are treated exactly as you might be.
