Just Back From | London, England

Lorelei Calvert, Andrew Harper’s chief operating officer, just returned from a two-night stay at The Lanesborough, in London. This 93-room property is housed within a landmark Regency building overlooking Hyde Park Corner, a short walk from Buckingham Palace and the famous Knightsbridge department stores. Even in light of its recent renovation, The Lanesborough remains distinctly British. The use of British handicrafts and products throughout the property, such as bespoke Roja fragrances and bath amenities, make for a truly London experience.

Insider’s Tip: Order coffee or tea with your wake-up, as it’s part of the room rate. If you order from room service later, you will be charged.

Overall impressions: The hotel, now managed by the Oetker Collection, is situated in a perfect spot: right in front of the Hyde Park tube stop, making for easy access to virtually everything. The Lanesborough closed down for 18 months and was totally transformed by Alberto Pinto. All materials are from the UK, and each floor is distinctive, with a different color and/or theme. The breakfast area is beautiful, and the bar is fantastic. It’s really quite stunning. You would have no idea that gobs of traffic is right outside.

Favorite moment: Walking down Piccadilly to the Royal Academy and seeing the Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse exhibit.

You can’t stop thinking about: The Rolling Stones Exhibitionism exhibit at the Saatchi Gallery. It was the highlight of my trip!

Favorite meal or meals: Breakfast at The Lanesborough, particularly the avocado toast and tea.

Favorite restaurant, museums or sightseeing: The Royal Academy, for the Monet to Matisse exhibit, and the Saatchi Gallery for the Stones exhibit. If you are a Stones nut, buy the VIP pass and go to the first show, otherwise it’s almost impossible to read everything.

Where to drink: The Library Bar.
