Outside the bustling city of Melbourne, the countryside is home to numerous wineries. Charming Daylesford, a spa town a 90-minute drive northwest of the city, merits a visit for its one-off shops and restaurants, and it is within easy driving distance of the Macedon Ranges wineries. Not as well-known as the wines from other regions, they are worth discovering.
In the Yarra Valley, a favorite weekend getaway to the city’s east and northeast, rolling hills provide a splendid setting for wineries. And with its mix of soil types and cool climate, the area is ideal for grapes such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. More developed than the Macedon Ranges region, the Yarra Valley has a good selection of restaurants, shops and other attractions.
