The Austrian Tyrol is a region of outstanding beauty, where jagged snowcapped mountains tower above fast-flowing rivers, green meadows and onion-domed churches. Before World War I, the Tyrol included South Tyrol and Trentino, which are now parts of Italy. The region is a paradise for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors, offering excellent downhill and cross-country skiing in winter and wonderful walking in summer. The region is dominated by the 12,461-foot Grossglockner, Austria’s highest peak. We would love to have an excuse to do a road trip from Zurich to Vienna, stopping at the Post Lech Arlberg and Tennerhof en route.
