Located 39 miles northeast of Geneva, French-speaking Lausanne is situated on the shores of Lake Geneva facing Evian-les-Bains in France. Between the extensive winegrowing regions of Lavaux to the east and La Côte to the west, the city offers dramatic panoramic views over the lake and the Alps. Lausanne has a rich musical life, thanks to the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne. The latter is renowned for recordings of baroque and Renaissance music, especially Monteverdi. In January, the Prix de Lausanne, a famous dance competition, takes place at the Théâtre de Beaulieu. Lausanne is home to the International Olympic Committee.
