Colorado Springs has drawn leisure travelers ever since a railroad reached the city in 1871. Located at the base of Pikes Peak, a 70-minute drive south of Denver , this city of almost half a million people is home to both the architecturally impressive Air Force Academy and the U.S. Olympic Committee. A new U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum opened in a dramatic building in 2020, and a new visitors center atop Pikes Peak is scheduled to be finished in 2021. The historic and freshly renovated Broadmoor is the region’s classic grand resort retreat, but the property also operates a mountaintop hideaway and a plush fly-fishing lodge.
