This part of central Florida is most famous for its theme parks, including powerhouses such as Walt Disney World, Epcot, Universal Studios and SeaWorld. Even if such attractions do not appeal, Winter Park (located 7 miles northeast of Orlando) is a well groomed, pedestrian-friendly place, built around six lakes linked by bougainvillea-laced canals. Its brick-paved, boutique-lined main street and charming architecture are a welcome antidote to Sun Belt sprawl.
