Just four to six hours by train south of Delhi and three hours by car southeast of Jaipur (accompanied by a staff member), this wilderness camp is set at the edge of Ranthambore National Park. The fanciful tented enclave offers dining and library-lounge pavilions, plus 10 Mughal-style air-conditioned canopied lodgings. Each features a screened sitting terrace opening onto a soaring central lounge, twin writing desks and a separate dressing alcove. All tents are assigned an experienced “batman,” who accompanies guests into the jungle along the Chambal River and to temples and cultural sites nearby. The restaurant employs produce from the camp’s organic kitchen garden to serve traditional Indian and Western cuisine. Activities and amenities are highlighted by wildlife-viewing tours by open-top Jeep, camel safaris, guided bird-watching treks, two spa treatment rooms and an outdoor pool. The hotel is closed from June through September.
