Housed by a 17th-century stone farmstead in the peaceful countryside just outside Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, this charming inn is two hours northeast of Aix-en-Provence near the Gorges du Verdon. Superchef Alain Ducasse owns the property, but don’t expect haute cuisine — his preference here is for simple regional fare that uses ingredients sourced primarily from the property’s impressive vegetable garden. Multicourse meals and afternoon tea can be enjoyed in one of the four dining rooms or on a lovely shaded terrace. Kilim-covered wood floors, antique furnishings and stone fireplaces accent 13 comfortable lodgings. Suites are augmented by private balconies or garden terraces. Aside from the restaurant, the main on-site amenity is a pool (heated May through September). This property is closed from November to mid-March.
Lowest Rate: Potiron Room, $310; Editor’s Choice: Olive Suite, $570.
Daily continental breakfast served at the restaurant or in room; Wi-Fi
