Cayo Espanto

Editor Rating
Scale of 90-100

Set on a private 4-acre islet, this hideaway is 10 minutes by boat from San Pedro. Hosting a maximum of 18 guests, the seven cottages have stylish living areas, separate dining spaces and private beachfront sundecks with heated infinity plunge pools and come with personal butlers. The most exclusive lodging is Casa Ventanas, an overwater bungalow with glass floors at the end of a 150-foot private dock. Though the resort lacks a central restaurant, delicious daily changing meals tailored for each guest are served on private verandas. The calm and shallow translucent waters surrounding the island are ideal for bonefishing but not swimming. Beachside spa treatments, fishing excursions, bird-watching tours and catamaran sailing, plus scuba diving charters to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve, can be arranged. This is an ideal place for couples and honeymooners.
