Elewana Elsa's Kopje Meru
Scale of 90-100
Traditional lodge in Meru National Park, named for the lioness featured in “Born Free.” (Joy and George Adamson lived nearby.) Lodgings spaced across the craggy hillside comprise six cottages, three Honeymoon Suites, a two-bedroom Family Cottage and the spacious two-bedroom Private House, with its own infinity pool. Excellent cuisine served in open-sided dining area covered with a thatched roof and appointed with Oriental rugs, hardwood furnishings and tribal art. Stone-walled cottages provide exhilarating views and spacious baths with rainfall showers; some feature outdoor tubs. Amenities include a horizon pool with deck area. Less opulent than lavish South African lodges and suitable for adventurous and experienced safari travelers.
