This cozy and rustic 16th-century inn set above a pretty harbor on the pastoral island of Funen is two hours from Copenhagen’s airport. A thatched-roof manor and two garden annexes contain 19 guest accommodations, some with sitting areas, fireplaces and verandas. Request one of the spacious Suites, which usually come with private terraces or conservatories, white brick walls and lounges with open fireplaces. While Rooms 14, 15 and 17-21 are lovely, Room 16 is particularly charming. Common spaces include a quaint bar with a fireplace and a coffee room-lounge. Though the hotel lacks a gym, pool and spa, a wood-beamed gourmet restaurant offers multicourse menus that highlight fresh local seafood and estate-grown produce. Electric bikes are available for rent, and horseback riding, golf outings and hiking tours can be arranged. This property is an evocative and peaceful base for sightseeing. The hotel is closed on Sundays.
