Overlooking 107 acres of parkland along the banks of the North Teign River, this distinctive Tudor-style sanctuary is two and a half hours southwest of Bath and 20 miles west of Exeter. The 24 individually designed rooms contain antiques, paintings and art prints and provide river or forest views, but lack A/C. Request one of the accommodations that include a balcony with a private hot tub. The creative tasting menus served at the hotel’s restaurant, helmed by chef Chris Eden, are complemented by an outstanding wine cellar with more than 13,000 bottles. On the premises are a tennis court, a croquet lawn and an 18-hole putting course (closed during winter months). The nearby Dartmoor National Park offers country walks, riding and fishing for trout and salmon.
