Guana Island

91 Editor Rating*
Scale of 90-100

Utterly tranquil, mostly undeveloped private island 20 minutes north of Tortola with seaview lodgings in cottages scattered along a hillside (some offer private pools with sun loungers) and four secluded one-, two- or three-bedroom villas. Interiors feature dark wood furnishings and simple whitewashed walls decorated with old prints; spacious covered terraces with sweeping views. Congenial main house includes homey living room, library and several dining areas. Buffet-style breakfast and lunch; varied dinner menu. Well-marked hiking trails, tennis, yoga classes and fine white-sand beach, plus water skiing, fishing and boating. Comfortable and unfussy rather than luxurious; delightful staff. Reopened in July after having been closed for renovations due to hurricane damage.
