Smartly appointed 24-room country inn and gourmet sanctuary occupying an unassuming building on the main street of Washington, a rural village in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Accommodations contain antiques, plush fabrics and marble baths. Request an extra-spacious Junior Suite or lavish Mayor’s House, with a sitting area, two fireplaces, courtyard garden and tiled bath with Jacuzzi tub. A more contemporary addition, The Parsonage, offers six rooms in a restored 1850s Victorian home. The Gamekeeper’s Cottage and two-bedroom Claiborne House, with living, dining and media rooms, have even more space and are a short distance from the inn. Celebrated two-star restaurant overseen by chef Patrick O’Connell. Hotel and restaurant closed every Tuesday.
