The Inn at Little Washington

Editor Rating
Scale of 90-100

This 23-room country inn and gourmet sanctuary is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains 70 miles west of Washington, D.C. Accommodations contain antiques and plush fabrics. Request an extra-spacious Junior Suite or the lavish Mayor’s House, with a sitting area, two fireplaces, a courtyard garden and a Jacuzzi tub. The Gamekeepers Cottage and the two-bedroom Claiborne House, with living, dining and media rooms, have even more space and are a short distance from the inn. Chef Patrick O’Connell, owner of the inn since 1978, is at the helm of the property's celebrated three-star restaurant, where imaginative French-inspired cuisine, supported by a 14,000-bottle wine cellar, is served. Seasonally changing menus showcase high-quality ingredients that have, in many instances, been harvested that very morning from the estate's working farm. Both the hotel and the restaurant are closed every Tuesday. Hotel bookings guarantee dinner reservations.
