Jack's Camp

Editor Rating
Scale of 90-100

This unique, well-run camp is set at the edge of the Kalahari’s Makgadikgadi salt pans. An enormous canvas main tent is filled with a treasure trove of fossils, skulls, spears, books and maps. Sisal mats cover the dark wooden floor, and easy chairs come with kilim-covered cushions. Ten very comfortable guest tents share this nostalgic décor and include spacious verandas. Delicious food and a good wine selection are highlights of the experience. Public spaces include a library area and a pool set in a tented pavilion. A nearby waterhole ensures wildlife sightings. A second, dry-season camp sits immediately adjacent to the salt flats. Activities include walking safaris with the local San Bushmen. This property is recommended for those with a romantic and adventurous spirit.

Note: The property is closed for significant refurbishments and will re-open in May of 2020. The guest tents, seven twins and three doubles, will be made much larger. The iconic interiors will remain but with the addition of intricate textiles from all over the world.
