Built in 1895, this palatial downtown hotel (listed on the National Register of Historic Places under the Historic Hotels distinction) is considered one of the finest examples of the Beaux Arts style in existence and blends Old World charm with warmhearted service. The stately Palm Court lobby with its imposing marble statue of Thomas Jefferson sweeps down a grand staircase to a magnificent skylit rotunda lobby supported by 70-foot marble columns adorned with gold leaf. The 181 handsome rooms feature entry foyers with live plants, high ceilings, dark wood furnishings, locally inspired artwork and marble baths with soaking tubs and separate showers. The elegant Lemaire serves a classic American menu with Southern influences, and TJ’s offers more-casual bistro fare. Other amenities include a gym, a hair salon, massage treatment rooms, a sundeck and an indoor pool with a vaulted ceiling.
