Originally designed in 1952 by renowned architect William F. Cody as a family retreat for the television producer and oil tycoon Jack Wrather, this secluded hideaway reopened as a luxury hotel in 2015. The resort encompasses a low-slung, angular residence (now considered to be one of the most significant examples of midcentury architecture in California) and 25 bungalows set on 3 acres dotted with mature palm trees. The San Jacinto Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop. No outside visitors are allowed in public areas, which include a pool and a bar. Spa treatments are offered in outdoor bungalows; room service and dinner are provided by the romantic SO•PA restaurant. The hotel does not permit guests under the age of 21.
