This strikingly designed enclave offers majestic views from a rocky outcrop in the Madikwe Game Reserve, an hour by light aircraft northwest of Johannesburg. Embellished by an impressive collection of African art, the lodge incorporates indigenous materials and comprises a glass-walled dining room, a bar-lounge, a library and a wine cellar. Gourmet meals are served on the deck or by the fire pit. Five luxurious, air-conditioned thatched suites feature sundecks with infinity pools and uninterrupted views of the waterhole and plains. Activities include dawn and dusk game drives and bush walks. Other amenities include a fitness center and a small spa. The reserve’s large-mammal species include buffalo, cheetah, elephant, leopard, lion and black and white rhino. Children under the age of 9 are not permitted.
