Six Senses Douro Valley
Scale of 90-100
This striking hotel on a 19-acre vine-planted hillside overlooking a sinuous bend in the Douro combines a traditional 19th-century manor-house and contemporary buildings. The 57 guest accommodations, including nine suites and seven villas, contain daybeds, large windows and gray limestone baths. Some of the lodgings feature private pools and furnished terraces with sweeping panoramic views of vineyards, the river or scenic woodlands. The hotel’s formal restaurant serves market-inspired regional cuisine, and the indoor-outdoor Wine Library & Terrace offers a tapas menu and daily tastings. The 23,700-square-foot spa has a huge heated indoor swimming pool, plus a steam room, a sauna, 10 treatment rooms, a yoga pavilion and a fitness center. Other facilities include a heated outdoor swimming pool and a well-stocked library.
