Editor Rating Scale of 90-100
Set on 6,000 scenic acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this plantation-style lodge has its own world-class championship golf course. Rooms are limited to 23 suites situated at the edge of a semitropical woodland facing the sea and links. Each unit, stylishly decorated by Virginia Fisher, features a scenic veranda. A casually elegant lodge opens into a glass-enclosed dining room serving Pacific Rim cuisine (dinner jackets required). Redesigned by golf architect Rees Jones, the Pebble Beach-like golf course features six dramatic cliffside holes, plus nine others with ocean views. The property also encompasses an excellent practice range, an infinity pool, tennis courts, three private beaches, a fitness center and a spa. Horseback riding, kayaking and fishing excursions, plus helicopter tours over the surrounding islands, can be arranged by the hotel.
