UXUA Casa Hotel
Scale of 90-100
Tranquil and exceptionally atmospheric hotel complex of 11 traditional one- to three-bedroom houses set amid idyllic tropical gardens in the languid seaside town of Trancoso. About half of the “casas” were restored by Wilbert Das (former creative director of Italian fashion brand Diesel) in collaboration with local artisans using reclaimed materials. The 990-square-foot Estúdio has wide-plank hardwood floors, a four-poster bed draped in mosquito netting, an antique writing desk, a small kitchen and an entire side that opens onto a private furnished patio. Dining options include an informal restaurant serving consistently excellent Bahian food and a casual beachside bar and restaurant with a thatched roof. A beautiful swimming pool is lined with thousands of green aventurine quartz stones; also a spa and fitness studio where capoeira and yoga classes are offered. The beach is a 10-minute walk away down a steep hill.

Wonderfully spacious and stylish accommodations; idyllic tropical gardens; delicious Bahian food; the atmosphere of deep tranquility.
The 10-minute walk to the beach can be a bore, but, hey, nowhere’s perfect.
