Scale of 90-100
Gracious ryokan in a 160-year-old traditional building with a thatched roof and earthen walls tucked in a large, lush garden a 20-minute drive from Takayama’s train station. Atmospheric main lounge features hardwood floors, exposed wood beams, an open hearth and low-set furniture. Eight tatami mat-floored rooms include sitting areas, large baths with cedar-wood soaking tubs and picturesque river and forest views; no Western-style beds available. A main dining room serves delicious regional delicacies including Hida beef and seasonal sansai (mountain vegetables), plus local sake.
